Modul Zvezda je sestavljen iz treh odsekov pod pritiskom. Na zadnjem prehodnem odseku se nahaja spajalni mehanizem, ki omogoča pristanek ladjam tipa sojuz TM in progress M. Osrednji in največji je delovni odsek z različnimi elementi, ki jih vesoljci potrebujejo pri delu v vesolju. V delovnem odseku so računalniki za nadzor delovanja postaje, dve majhni kajuti za vesoljca, miza, stranišče,... Sprednji prehodni odsek vsebuje še tri spajalne mehanizme.
